McFarlane Toys MLB Sports Picks Series 7 Action Figure Bernie Williams Gray Jersey
Bernie Williams is one of the few of the remaining yankees of there 1996-2003 run to the world series. He has a chance to make the hall of fame. Mcfarlane has capitalized on his popularity with fans and his fellow teamates. Bernie is sculpted in his away uniform chasing down a pop fly in the center feild grass. He is painted with the 100th anniversary yankee logo on his hat and left shoulder, with dirt on his right leg. This is a must have for yankee fans or anybody who loves Bernie Williams.
There is a lot of talk this off season about the New York Yankees shifting Bernie Williams from center field to left field. The notion is that the Yankees would sign a second baseman, move Alfonso Soriano to center, shift Williams to left and Hideki Matsui to right. Then again, if Steinbrenner signs Vladimir Guerrero who knows what happens; maybe Williams and Matsui switch. Anyhow, these stove top ruminations are all a prelude to the idea that it is nice McFarlane Toys got around to do a figure of Bernie Williams while he was still the custodian of the most storied position in Yankee history.
This is one of the most impressive figures McFarlane has put out of a player in the field, because they have really captured Williams gliding across the outfield zeroing in on a high fly ball hit to right center field. When it comes to players on defense it is relatively easy to come up with a definitive pose if you are talking a pitcher like Randy Johnson. But for infielders and outfielders it is a bit harder (how do you do Derek Jeter’s signature move, the deep ball to his right where he jumps, spins, and throws?). But they nailed Williams with this pose. The only way it would have been more realistic is if he was shown playing a song from his new album on his guitar.
In addition to the classic Bernie Williams pose there are the details, which this time around are the World Series emblems on the cap and jersey. Since Williams became the all-time leader in postseason home runs when he went deep against the Florida Marlins in the 2003 World Series, this is an appropriate touch. I wish McFarlane would resist the impulse to keep putting dirt on the uniforms on every figure, but they must have someone hired just to do that. This Bernie Williams figure is also available wearing the Yankee’s home pinstripes. Usually I have a preference for the fabled home uniforms on my Yankee figures, but I have to admit that on this particular one the gray looks better.
